Fruitgrowers "Don't Know Where They Stand" GOVERNMENT POLICY AWAITED
(From
WELLINGTON, This Day. Because of rising costs and the fact that the Government has not yet deolared its policy, a second conference of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation may be held towards the end of the year, according to an intiuiation given by the chairman, Mr H. E. Stephens, when the annual confereuco closed in Wellington yesterday. "We have been labouring under a handicap at this conference because we* don't know exactly where we stand," said Mr Stephens. "We are facing rising costs and wages we are not in a position to meet, either, at the present time. Until the Government declares its policy— because this is a situation brought about by Government legislation — we are not able to discuss our problems properly. The board, therefore, considers that it may be necessary to ea.ll auothcJ* conference later in the year."
