WESTSHORE ACCESS

Who Should Do Work— County or Borough? MAY LAPSE FOR PRESENT The undertaking of work on the ac« cess road from Napier to Westshore, excluding the bridge, seems 'about to lapse for the moment owin g to difflculty in arranging between the Napier Borough Council and the Hawke's Bay County Council as to who is to do the work. Both bodies have a full programine of works on hand, and while they are agreed regarding the costs of the work, for which a subsidy of 100 per cent on the labour has been offered by the Department of Labour, they both^seein unable to undertake the work at present. At the meeting of • the Napier Borough Council last night it was reported by the works committee that the county suggestion that the borough should undertake the work of widening the access road to normal road width had been considered, and that the county would contribute £150 to the cost if the borough undertook the work. The committee considered that the council should reply that the borough had a full programme of works on hand, but would in turn make a contribution of £150 to the cost if the county undertook the work. The recommendation was adopted by the council.
