kems from the Council Agenda WORKS SUBSIDIE5 CONFIRMED \ The Napier Borough Council met. last evening, the Mayor, Mr C. O. Morse, prosiding over Mesars R. W. Goodger, M. S. Spence, J. H. Oldham, A. H. D. Mayne, E. E. Carrington, A. E. Bedtord and P. F. Higgins. 9 The council passed a vote ot condolence with the relatives of the late Mr James Constable, a former councillor, who died some weeks ago. « * • Formal confirmation from the Department of Labour of its olfers of subsidy for local-body works was reeeived at the meeting. The works were: — • Marine Parade improvements, 85 per cent of wages up to a maximum of 30 men for four months; Lever and Dammett streets, 75 per cent of wages up to- £400 ; George's Drive stop-bank, 100 per cent of wages up to 30 men tor four months. A resolution of thanks was passed to the department. « • • It was decided to investigate the removal of the sun-recording instrument from Nelson Park to a position wliere it will record a maximum amount of sunshine. A letter from Mr Arnold Wright pointed out that though Napier was famed for its sunshine it had been beaten each year for the sunshine record of New Zealand through trees sliading the instrument.
