Napier Council to Seek Lease LOAN ISSUE DEFERRED Steps are to be taken by the Napier Borough Council to obtain from the Napier Harbour Board the lcase oi' 520 acres of the Beaeons ae-rodrome to establish an airport for Napier. The council last night appointed a deputation to meet the board at its next meeting. The council had before it last night. a report from the llnance committeo, with the additicn of Messrs P. 1\ ^li.jjgins and A. B. D. Mayne, cn a deputation from the Napier Airport Board. The deputation, said the report, pointed out that experts had told the Aero Club shortly aiter the earthqualie that the embankment site was ideal. ilowever, since the water had left the inner Harbour the position regardmg fogs had altercd and now the Beaeons site was the only one entirely froe from this dcfect. It was also pointed out that the Beaeons site was not chosen in the first place because tho river was not then diverted and at spring tides the water flooded right up on to this land. Pliotographs were produccd showing the condition of tliis ground at that period. The cQnnuittee reconimended that tliv council should approa.ck tlio Napici Harbour Board through a deputation consisting of representatives nf tlic council and Airport Board for a lcaso of approximately 520 acres at Uio Beaeons for an aerodrome, and that a plan oi' the .area should be forwardcd to the Harbour Board. Mcssrs Ma) .ie and M. S. Spenee were appointed to meet the Harbour Board, and in the ineantime the requcsts 01 llie Airport Board to the council to obtain tlie land and raise a loan are to be deferred.
