GOLDEN WEDDING OF MR. & MRS. A. G. NICHOLSON

An interesting event which took place at the Hastings Memorial Hospital on Sunday afternoon was the celebration of the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs A. G. Nicholson, of Knight street, Hastings, Mrs Nicholson being a patient at the hospital at present. The sisters and nurses had decorated the room charmingly with gold and white streamers, and gold balloons and a lovely white bell were hung overhead. A large number of friends assembled during the afternoon, and the toast to this flne old couple proposed by Mr Weston was honoured by everyone, and "For they are Jolly Good Fellows" was sung. Two beautiful golden wedding cakes were given by friends, and after the cakes had been cut and passed round the remainder was given to the rest of the patients in the ward. A vote of thanks was passed to Sister Russell and the nurses for their kind attention to Mrs Nicholson while m the hospital. » During the afternoon the following poem was read by request: TO GEORGE AND PAM (1887—1937) Just fifty years of Time have fled, Since happily this twain was wed In yonder church of Portsmouth town, With masts and steeples peering down. As at the altar then they knelt, And fires of fondest love they felt, The pledge of fealty they made, While solomnly the organ played. This pledge they sealed upon the Book, And sacredly they undertook, The one to serve from day to day, The other to honour and obey. Thus was their married life begun — For fifty years they've Tved as One. Mid ups and downs that they have fared, The joys and sorrows they have shared. In health and sickness, sun and cloud (By All-Wise Providence endowed), Not in pursuit of wealth and fame, Bul holding sacred their good. name, They've lived their life as they began, A Comely Woman and — a Man. A. H. VILE. Mrs Nicholson, though still in bed, was bright and happy and her friends wished ber a speedy reco'very before ieaving the verv happy party.
