Bible Class Social. On Friday evening the Waipukurau «:ombined Presbyterian Bible clafeses entertained members from Takapau and | Waipawa classes at a social evening in St. Andrew's Hall, Waipukurau. Interesting and amusing items were much enjoyed, especdally two songs sung by Miss F. Malkin and Miss G. Wiggins, with chorus by the ^senior girls. The Eev. W, E. Hutchison welcomed the visitors on behalf of the home team. In reply, Mr Chalmers thanked the Waipukurau classes on behalf of the visiting classes for the very pleasant evening. Sprangbok Broadcast. The Central H.B. Rugby Sub-Union 's scheme to have broadcasts of the Springbok matches picked up at Central Park, Waipukurau, during the progress of local competition games, proved a great success on Saturday, when a radio set, kindly loaned by a local dealer, wae placed on the stand. The broadcast came through vefy clearly indeed, but barrackers found it hard to shout encouragement to home-town talent and listen in to the progress of the imported- article at the same time. Toc H Members Foregather. A party of Toc H members froui Palmerston North visited, Waipukurau for the week-end. Arriving on Saturday afternoon, the visitors took part in the evening in a debate and ping-pong tournament against members of tho local group. Waipukurau came out 011 top in both cases, although the judge, Mr F. J. Dunbar, awarded a vei\j naxrow margin of points in the debate. The Palmerston Nofth speakers wero Messrs Brown and M. "V^alker, while the local side' oi the arguinent was handled by Messrs P, R. Watson and B. Johanssen. The visitors eamped in the Waipukurau Toc H rooms on Saturday night, accompanied by a couple of local group members. Rugby Queen CarnivaL Waipukurau, with 6400 votes^ maintains the lead in the order of voting lu the Central Kawke's Bay Rugby SubUnion 's queen carnival. The voting in other centres is as follows: Takapau 6020, Porangahau 5920, Otane-Omakere-Te Aute 4370, Ongaonga-Waipawa 3494, Tikokino-Waipawa 600. With each vote valued at 3d the total amount collected to date is £335 10/-. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for Waipukurau for the month of Jiily are as follow (fhe £gures for the corresponding month of last year being shown ,in parentheses) : — Births 2 1 (1) , deaths 4 (6), marriages '2 (2). Representative Basketball, There' was a fair attendance at the Waipukurau primary school courts on Saturday when a representative basketball team from Dannevirke engaged n a match against a Central Hawke's Bay representative team. The game resulted in a win for CentraL Hawke 's Bay A 29 v. Dannevirke- 6. Mrs Craven refereed. Hastings High School Old Girls (35) scored a good, win over Central Hawke's Bay B (8). Miss Marfell refereed. At the conclusion of th'e games the visiting players were entertained at afternoon tea. Omakere Telephone Line. A. fully representative meetlng of the subscribers of the Omakere telephone line met at the Omakere Hall, when Mr Forbes McHardy" presided. An estimate of the cost of making tho lino metallie was read to the meeting, The re-grouping of subscribers, as suggested by Mr McHardy, was unaniinously agreed to. One representative from each of the ten lines was elected to the committee to go into details and ro place before the nesct meeting a list of the costs to each individual subscriber. The subscribers eleeted were: hlessrs Forbes McHardy (chairman), J. Logan, D. Butler, W. Burt, W. Bennett. D. Ritchie, R. B. Nation, E. C. Nation, ].». Williams and W. Kittow, A hearty vote of thanks to Mr McHardy for all the trouble he had taken in collecting the data' and information rerating to the telephone line, was ■ passed.
