Gift from National Bank

i WAIPUKURAU, This Day. To as,sist the Central Hawke's Bay Aero Club, the National Bank of New Zealand has donated to the club the buildings on the corner of Northomberland and Ruataniwha streets. The I gift, which is very much appreciated by the club, will enable the building of a hangar to accommodate machines putilng up in Waipukurau overnight. In an interview, the seeretary ,Mr C. E. Watson, stated that the gift was worth £100 to the club, and with earcful planniug would provide accommodation for anytliing up to a six-seater passenger machine. The building of the hangar will be gone on with imme* diately the buildings become available for demolition. The site of the hangar will, be 25 chains due west of Messrs Wharmby and Williams' factory. - The building, which was bqilt in 1907 by Mr W. A. Chambers for Mr S. F. Logan, one-time postmaster, has been a silent witness to many progressive changes in Waipukurau. Some doubi exists as to the first tenant, but it is known that it was once oecupied by Mr Joe Paku, and afterwards by Messrs : Btewart and Company, auctioneers. At tha same time, Mr D. B. Kent, solicilor.'1 :/so oecupied a portion of the budding. Miss Barnes, dressinaker, also oecupied a portion for a period. Mr W. G. Brye0 oecupied the building from 1923 to 1932, and Mr Hopkinson,■saddler, was also a tenant for many years.
