Seating accommodation | was fuily taxed, tbere being a large attendance of members and severaj new members. The president's table looked cbarniing with a glazed bowl of yellow marguerites. Mrs O'Halloran, leader, made a bappy sueeoli of welcome to the new members. . ApoJogies for absence were reeeived from Mesdames Morse, Wood, and Barnett. A voll ea'.] of favourite verses inet with a good response, many fine ptems neing quoted. The poetical switcli was won by Miss Fannin. Tlie play, "Snowed up with the Duchess," was read, the parts being taken by Mesdames Orr, Sorrell, Boyd arid Berry. Directions were read by Miss Fannin. Talks and extracts from favourite l)ooks were most enjoyable, Mrs Sorrell reading from Florence Barclay's "White Ladies," Mrs Bagley from "New Zealand From Within", by Donald Cowie, and Miss Fannin read from "Lonely Plough," by Constance Holme. There was an excellent respose to the short story competition, the result of which will be announced at tbe next meeting.
