MISS JANET NICHOLSON McGHIE
The nursing profession throughout New Zealand has suffered a sad blow by the death of Miss Janet Nicholson McGihie, for nearly ten years Matron of Palmerston North Hospital, and that institution the loss of a highly esteemei leader and public figure whose place will be hard to fill. Little over a week ago Miss McGhie was in her accustomed place and had enthusiastically resumed her duties after a brief spell in Dunedin, following on the exacting duties of the recent epidemic. A sudden collapse on July 18 alarmed tihose closely concerned and her relatives were sent for, Mr. J. G. McGhie, of Wellington, arriving immediately and her sister, Miss Nora McGhie, by 'plane last Monday. Throughout the week there had been • great anxiety and despite all that medical skill and attention eould do sbe failed to rally and passed away at tho hospital yesterday, the news casting quite a gloom over (her r.ssociates and indeed over a much wider community.
