MR. WILLIAM HAINES
'x'he deatu occurred uany ou Saturday inorning at the Dannevirke Fublic Hospital, of which he had been an ininate ior some months on account of heart fcrouble, of one of -the best known residents of Dannevirke, Mr. William Haines, who had resided there ior nearly 50 years. Jdorn in London on November 28, 1862, deceased was educated there and brought up to the brick-iiihking trade. In 1875 he came to New" Zeaxand with his parents, and subsequently established a brick kiln in Christehurcn, in conjunction with his father. Twelve months later they romoved to Timaru, and afterwards to Ashburton. The late Mr. Haiues, aoon after his marriage at Gore on August Ii6, 1886, settled in Dannevirke, assisting to establish 45 years ago the wellkuown brick-making business at Adelaide road. The late Mr. Haines and Mrs. Haines on August 26 of last year ceiebrated Jfcheir golden wedding at their residence m Cadman street when there was a happy family gathering. All Mr. and Mrs. Haines' sons and daughters were present, and four of the grandchildren. The daughters are Mes: dames A. Cambridge (Ashburton), B. Turkington (Petone), B. Cunningham (Milton) and W. .Turkington ^Petone). The sons, Messrs. William, AUen, and' Oswald Haines, all reside ia, Dannevirke. OtherS present were two brothers of Mr. Haines— Messrs. John Haines (Hastings) and George Haines. (of Auckland until recently), the for-i mer having been best man at the wed-j ding half a century ago. Two sisterit attended also — Mrs. H. Campbell and! Miss M. Haines, both pf Dannevirke.:
