LIGHTING OF CLOCK

Havelock Experiments Tests and experiments in the' lighting arrangements for the new town clock at Havelock North are being carried to-day, and it is hoped that the clock itself will be placed in position over the Rest House in the centre of the village to-morrow. The .board has set out to make the clock a decided acquisition to the township. Originally the clock cost the Hastings Borough Council some £80 without duty, but when it was found to be the wrong electrical type no use could be made of it in the borough. Eventually it was offered at a greatly reduced price to the Havelock North Town Board and upon deep regret being expressed that the board 's finances would not allow for the acceptance of the offer at the moment Mr and Mrs Hugh W. C. Baird, of Hastings, generously offered to purc'hase the elock and present it to the village. Though the clock was intended .to be a bracket one, the board has made eertain alterations that have allowed it to be installed on the top of a tower, so giving it greater prominence. The actual location decided upon is an excellent one, for it will ,be visible for some distance along five of the six roads that merge near the Rest House, upon which the eloek tower is being erectecL
