Muddy River Waters Cause Scarcity. No whitebait is obtainable in Hastings, aithough highi prices have been offered as an inducement to catcl^ers. It was reported last Wednesday afternoon that a very small quantity had come upon the market in Hastings, but. since then no supplies whatever have come to hand. Fishermen at Clive expiained this morning that a considerable volume of water was still flowing down the rivers and the force of thds water entering into the sea was prevemting the whitebait from swimming upstream. In addition to this, of course, whitebait, like most other fish, dislike muddy water. .The milder weather whieh has prevailed during the last two days must, if it eontinues, bring prospects of better catches, but it will be a few days before the rivers are clear of the flood waters resulting from last week's heavy downpour,
