Ormondville Group
There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Ormondville Women 's Institute, and a number of visitors were welcome d by the president, Mrs. H. R. Benbow. _ Invitations to attend the birthday partaes of Makotuku (July 30) and Norsewood (August 3) were xeceived. The proposed fancy dress ball for children was discussed, and the date on which it ifi to be held was advanced to August 27 to avoid claehing with other fixtures. Prizes are offered for the best costume for boy or girl over 12, over 6 and under 12, under 6 years, and the most comical costume, Prizes were promised by Mesdames G. Cload, H. Howes, H. J. Newling and Miss A deputation from the library committee asked that ihe Institute should organiee an annuai bulb show in aid of library funds. This will be considered more fully later, but was viewed favourably. The roll call, "TJse of Scissors in the Kitchen," gave helpful suggestions. Mrs, H. O. Baines and Miss Sloan tied for the afternoon's competition, Miss Sloan winning the draw. Mrs. W. A. Trask won the child's knitted scarf competition, and Mrs. E. Cload fruit squares. Next week the competition ls to be "Name of a native tree and where it is to be fouad," and "Daintiest tray ploth in coloured cottons. ' ' The afternoon's demonstration^ making a gymnasium frock and tailoring points, waa given by Mrs. B. Turner, of Matamau. Misses Kershaw and L. Serjeant, also of Matamau, kindly acteij as judges of the competitions.
