Hatuma "Husband's Evening"
The July meeting of the Hatuma Women 's Institute took tho form of a "husbands' evening," when husbanda and friends were entortained at a very enjoyable social evening, which was held in the Hatuma hall. The president Miss Allan, extended a warm welcome to all present, and hoped they would enjoy the programme which had been arranged. Several apologies were tendered from members unable to be present. The president mentioned that Mrs, R. Tod would be present at thh August meeting, and that the competitions for that month would. be, prettlest toilot set and girdle scones. The programme opened with songs rendered bv Mr. E. T. Haldane and Miss J. Edgar, and two' cornet solps, "Dawning" and Bololliro," by Mr. J. Russell, these being much enjoyed. Tho - winnera of the mirth-provoking competitions were: Charades, Meesrs. E. T, Haldane, G. Eennedy and Robinson (equal) 1, Tearing paper animal, Mr. R. Edgar 1, Mr, Mandeno 2. * Table billiards, Miss E. A. Hobson. Telephone competition, Mr, E._ Haldane, Horse racing, Mr. J. Downey 1, Mr. J. Eood 2. The programme concluded with a spectacular Empire Pageant, staged by Institute members, which opOned with the singing of "Land of Hope and Glory" by Mr. E. Haldane, the Various nations ropresented their paying homage to Britannia (Mrs. E. T. Haldane), Mrs Lawthcr (Ireland), Miss M. Robinson (Walcs), Miss J. AlJan (Scotland), Miss J. Wilson (Hong Kong), Miss E. Bayliss (India), Miss E. Grant (Malay States), Miss K. Eiddlo (South Africa),. Miss S. Patterson (New Zcalaud) Miss; E. Wilson (Canada), Miss J. !l2dgar (Australia). The display concluded with the singing of "Kule Britannia." The winners of the monthly competi tions were; Best bloom, Miiss ,T. Allan 1, Mrs. Allan 2, Miss K. Riddle 3. §rass work, Mrs. P. A. Riddle 1, Miss" Bayliss 2 and 3, Monogram handorchicf, Miss j. Allan 1, Mrs. Patterson 2, Miss E. Wilson 3. Pikelets. Mrs. Haldane 1, Miss J. Wilson 2. Miss K. Riddle 3. After supper was served, the hall was cleared for dancing, music being played by Misses E. Grant, M. Simmons and E. A. Hobson. Before leaving for home, klr. G. Kennedy, on belialf of the menfolk, heartily tkanked the Institute members for providing such a delightful evening
