Growing Danger In Dominion FARMERS' OPINIONS

WELLINGTON, This Day. The problem of river erosion and the preservation of bush in all watersheds of the Dominion was discussed by • the New Zeaiand Farraera' Union conferen.ee. Eein-its were carried" urging- t-ho Government to take action and were adopted. Several speakers spoko expressing their alarm at the ever-inereasing damage from. river erosion and urging tho Government that it should include in its Public Works poliey a comprehensible scheme of effective river control. ' Taxa'bion reforma were also; urged at the conference, a remit being carried that women should be exempt from the unemployment tax until they became eligible to- benefit from the fund. It was decide-d to urge that in taxation returns farmers should be allowed for renewals and replacements of crossings, bridgee and other permanenl improvements washed away by floods. A motion was carried that the land tax should be levied only on the equity in a farmer's holdings. A remit was carried advocating a reduction in the unemployment tax rate because of the lessened number of unemployed reported and the increased ivages. . .
