AUCKLAND, Last Night. How an apprentice jockey employed by a Trentham horse trainer was given £10 to bank during a visit to Wellington, but spent the money on liquor and confessed in a letter that he was too ashamed to return to liis employer was told in the Magistrate's Court when Koderick Arehibald McKae, aged 24, pieaded guilty to a charge of stealiug money from John Charles McKenzie. "I attribute my lapse to over-indul-gonce in liquor," accused said in a statement to the police. He explaiued that he had every intentkm of bansing the money until he reached the «*it,y on June 10, and was unable to find the bank. Then he began t o visit hotels, making the acquaintance of several strangers, and he soon becarae intoxicated. Next morning he found he had spent most of the money and did not like to return to his employer. He was prepared to make restitution. He had wntten to liis employer, confessing that he had spent the money. Accused was remanded for further inquirioj; ,
