TALK ON BOOKS TO TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD
About sixty members of the Napier Townswomen 's Guild Luncheon Ciub attended the second luncheon which was held yesterday in Blytkes tea-rooms. Members were received by Mr C. O. Morse, the vice-president. Miss Jeromo Spent er, O.B.E., president, Mrs Bruco Baipett, chairwoman, and Miss 0. Fannm, the secretary, were also proscnt. An intensely interesting talk on books, both old and new, was given by Mrs M. E. Storkey, the Napier librarian, who explained to her listeneis how vastly beneficial it was to read from a wide range of literature. Several people have one or perhaps two favourite authore and they liinit their reading to such; but the speaker stated that she herself thought it was a good idea to follow these lines, "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" when choosing books. In demonstrating this the "Memoirs of William Hickey ' ^ was' given for "something old," and •Winifred Holtby's "Lptters to a Friend" was for "something new." For "something borrowed" Mrs Btorkey chose "Daughter of the Nariikin" by the Japanese author Sugimbto, and for "something blue" light novels and new deteetive stories were suggested. The speaker then told some very amusing anecdotes and rare inquiries gatliered by her as librarian. Mrs Barnett thanked Mrs Storkey On behalf of the club i'or her very interesting address, everyone present sliowing their appreciation.
