MUSICAL AFTERNOON AT HASTINGS WOMEN'S CLUB ENJOYED BY MEMBERS

A very deligktful programme of vocal solos and duets and pianoforte items was thoroughly enjoyed by the members of tlie music circle of the Hastings Women's Community Club yesterday afternoon, when they were entertained by the Rev. W. T. Drake and Mrs Drake and their party from Waipawa, and Miss Florence Parkinson, of Hastings. The Rev. and Mrs Drake have often given deligktful imusical programmes at the club and judging from the large audience yesterday the members had evidently anticipated another such prcK gramme, and all were well rewarded by a selection of excellent items. The club lounge was gay with large bowls of iceland poppies and l'oliage, and. similar bowls decorated. the adjoining room, where a delicious afternoon tea was enjoyed. Before the programme commenced Mrs H. W. C. Baird presented a lovely iioral posy, a gift from the gardening circle members, jto oue o£ the club members, Mrs J. Bimsou, who leaves ilastings shortly to live in Auckland, and wished her much happiness in her new home. Mrs Simson thanked the members for the posy and said how much she wouid miss the club, which Jtiad given her so much pleasure. Mrs Baird also welcomed; Mr and Mrs Drake and their party— Mrs C. G. Knobiock, Miss Alda Drake and Miss Alma Coliins, and also Miss Florence Parkinson — and presented eack with a charming coat posy, The musical programme was a particuiarly deligktful one, and the members skowed how muck they appreciated each item by asking for many eneores. At tbp conclusion Mrs T. H. Lowry, club president, thanked the performers for the pleasure that they nad given the audience tkrougliout the programme. The programme *was as follows: — Vocal soios, Mrs C. G. Knobiock, "0 Flower of All the World," and "1 YVonder if Love is a Dream," and iater on the programme "Goodbye" (Tosti) and "Vale" (Russel Kennecly) ;\ pianoforte solos, Miss .Florence Parkinson, "Nocture in C Minor" (Chopin) a^d "Song of the Sea" (Qyril Jenkins); vocal duets, the Rev. W. T. and Mrs 1 Drake, "Farewell to Summer" (Noel Johnson) and "Trot Here and There," and later by special request, "Only a Rose" and as an. en'core "As 1 Went a Roaming" ; pianoforte solos, Miss Alda Drake, "Romance" (McDowell) and "Poupee i Valsante" (Poldini) ; vocal solos, Miss Alma Coliins, "V*alley of Laugkter" and "Ciribiribin" and later in the programme "The Bloom of an Appie Tree" with other smgers taking the chorus part, and as an encore" Smiling Through."
