Old Hospital. Site Sold To Golf Club

WAIROA, This Day. The County Council met on Wednesday, Present: Ora, A G, Nolaa (chairman), W.' j, HiU, A. T. Carroll, J, Tait, D. y. Thomas and W, Tait. The Napier District Highways Council advised that the board will be taking over the Mohaka Brxdge-Wairoa section of the Gisborne-Napier Via Hangaroa State highway as from July h The same authorlty advdsed that the board. intends to adnere to its definite rule that monetary authorities for maintenance and con'struction works must be obtained before any expenditure is ineurred by the local body. The Commissioner . of Ofowh Lands, Gisborne, inquired Whether the counc-il would be prepared to take over eections 15S, 16S and Lot 1 of 17S, Ohuka Settlement, 3019 acres lr. llp., for treeplanting purposes, at the vaiue of land and improvement of £1380. — Tfixs wa3 considci'ed a ffiattef for the State to under take. The Borough Council asked if the council was in favour of paying haif cost of improvement of street on south side of Queen street, frohting the council property, estimated at £11. — | Agreea to, Mr L. j. Schmitt, of ihe Industries and Commerce Department, asked the eouncil's intenti.ons in regard to the camping site at Morere.— On the motion of Or Carroll, it was deexded lo xeply that the council had little funds to spend on such improvements, and suggesting same should he takou Over by the department. A vote of thanks was passed to Cr. W. J. Hill fof has services on the Hospital Board for a period of yeare. Mr R. H. Glendining, of Waihua, was appointed in his plack, Sale of Old Hospital Site. The chairman and cpuncillors present approved of the sale of the old hospital site to the Golf Club for £1500s the same being considered a very good deal. The chairman stated that a& the f und for the health camps had been so well supported there might be funds to establish st .camp on the Eaet CoftSt4 and as ihe council had some land At Opoutama, 50 odd acres, they shonld offiqr ten acres suitahie for a baffiping site. On %he motion of Cr Carroll, seconded by Cr. Thomas, it was decided to make the offer if the Government wotild eee its way to establish a camp there. The Harbour Board wroto nrging the planting of more marram grass on the Opoutama sandhills, and suggested the construction of a road to the Mahia and the camps on the top of the sandhills at Opoutama instead of "the back road." — Agreed to. Cr. Thomas asked that steps be taken to deal with dogs worrying eheep, and i,t was decided to' instruct the dog-tax collector to take renewed steps to register dogs, and to shoot all not regietered, also to more closely define tho classes. It was decided to advertise fbr an assistant engineer at a fsalary of £250 per annum. The Traffic Inspector, Mr R. W. Hawthorne, reported having issued during the month 100 driving licenees, making the total 920, and 14 heavy traffie licenees. The engineer 's report was read and adopted, and he was authorised to go on with Matakuhia road and the formation of a road camp at Willow Flat.
