Miss N. Jull, eidest daughter of Mi and Mrs Fred Jull, Waipawa, is a patient in a private hospital in Waipukurau, where she underwent an operation for appendicitis. She is makilig good prog>ress towards recovery. Mr E. J. Watts, and Misses Gray, McDonald and McConnon, of the stafl of the Waipawa District High Sehool will attend the New Zealand Education Fellowship Conference for the Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Wanganui districts, which will open at Wellington next week. Mr. R. W. Hawthorne, acting-engin-eer to the Wairoa County Council, has been appointed engineer, in ^ place of Mr. A. G. Smith, who has retired after 27 years with the council. At the meeting of the council yesterday, it was decided to send a letter to Mr. Smith, expressing the council 's high appreciation of his faithful service, and hoping he might have many more years and in good health to enjoy his well-earned rest.
