WAIROA, Last Night, The Wairoa Harbour Board met on Tuesday, Present; Metesrs. V. E. Winter (chairman), J, N. Mackay H. L. Harker, J. Corkill, M. G. M. WilHams, J, M, Taylor, and A. T. Carroll Mr. Taylor, betoie the commencement of business, eaid h6 desired to pay a trbute to the work of Mr. Oorkxll durxug his last term of office in reference to Waikokpou and he hoped he would not cease his efforts in that direction. Wairoa, the speaker said, was at the cross-roads, and no opportumty should be missed to push the -mhtter in justice to the East Coast, and he desired this tribute to Mr. Corkill to be entered on the minutes. The chairman and Messrs, Harker and Williams, endorsed the remarlcs, all being impressed with the possibxlities A survey was to be made and the board would abide by it. Mr. Harker reported that Mr. Schmitt, of the Department of Industries and Commerce, was taking up the matter of the provision of a depot for flour to provide against shortage in Wairoa. " Begarding the past administration of the Taramarama reserve, it was decided that the board 'a solicitor, should take up the matter with the department, so as to get better treatment. Thds Mr. Harker said, meant UO reflectxon on the farmers concemed, but at the methods adopte^ during the last 12 years by the department. Mr. Corkill mentioned tho advisibility of having a road constructed on the top of the sand hills at Opoutama leadmg to Mahia and the camping areas. — Mr. Carroll was asked to take up same at the County Council meeting, and to eonfer with the natives. Mr. Corkill 's motion Was earried. Jt was decided to take up the question of securing some land at Opoutama for tree-planting, Mr. Harker stating it would be a grdat help itt getting a health camp established there. — Mr. Carroll to bring the matter up at the County Council meeting.
