WAIPUKURAU, This Day. At yesterday 's meeting of the Patangata County Council, 'a letter received from the Medical Officer ' of Health, Wellington, etated that after inspecting the proposed water supply for Otane township he did not feel that he could 1 Tecommend it. The water was swamp I water an-i exhibited an oily-looking Surfaco scum which was somewhat objectionable and might cause offensive tastes. He would suggest that the council investigate other possibilitios and eink a well in some suitable ' locality in the same valley, but on firra | ground and away from the swamp. Inspector Welsh might assist dn selecting a suitable site. In a letter written two days later (June 10) the officer suggested that if the total cost was not too great, the supply of water by the ' Waipawa Borough Council to the Otane township would be the most satisfactory eourse to adopt. After discussion it was decided that the engineer investigate for a better site. j .
