Government Purchase in Christchurch £24,000 BUILDING

CHRISTCHUECH, Last Night. Several Government Departments will ultimately he housed in the hnilding formerly occupied by Skelton, Frostick and Company in Hereford street which has been purchased hy the Government. The immediate intention is to nse this large three-storey huilding as central offices for all branches of the Labour Department which are now scattered about the city. When details of the purchase have been completed and arrangements aie made about the existing tenants of the huilding, the three branches of the Lahour Department — Labonr, Placement and Employment — will he shifted there so that their activities can he co-ordin-ated in one set of offiees. The huilding which has been acquired will he extensively altered inside by the construction of additional walls to proyide for the various offices., The price paid for the bnilding was £24,000. The sale was negotiated between the Government and the Bank of New Zealand as Jiquidator for Skelton, Frostick and Company.
