Auckland Board's 1936-37 1 Operations

AUCKLAND, This Day. The balahce-sheet and acc.ounts submitted at the annual meeting of the Auckland Transport Board to-day showed that revenue to March 31 was £584,860, an increase of £40,036 on the previous year, and expenditure £597,043 compared with £561,010 for the previous year. The result of the year'e operations showed a deficit of £12,183 compared with a deficit of £16,187 for the previous year. ThC ehairmafa, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, said that overseas exehange had very seriously alfected the board, £20,031 extra being paid to ineet the London interest bill of £80,938. The manager, Mr A. E. Ford, reported that the operation of the 40-hour week necessitated the engagement of 148 additioual men and the cost of improved working conditions was £70,600. a year. . Mr Mason was unanimously reelected chairman, his honorarium being fixed at £300, and Mr E. E. Lark was unanimously re-elected deputy-chairman.
