AUCKLAND. Last Night. In the heart of the Sahara, the Ho'n. Arthur W. North, an American explOref, met an Arab eheik who spoke perfect English, this bedng unuSual in a land where Arabie and Freneh afe regardedas. the. ..universai languages. Mr North asked him where he learned tb speak English and the sheik answered: "I have 100 s.hephOrds. I count iny sheep by the thousand. I learnt English that i might read New Zealand -reports o'n sheep." This taie was told to-day after Ihe arrival of the Mariposa by Mr North who, wilh his daughter and a cameramari, arrived on an educational exp'edition. Mr Norjth has penetrated into many almost unknown lands and is now "discovering" New Zealand.
