IRISH ELECTIONS
New Constitution Is Favoured DUBLIN, July 4. The state of the parties in the Irish electione at midnight was as follows: Be Valera supporters .. .. .. 45 Cosgrave snpporters ... 22 Babour *. .. . . . . ... . . t. . 2 , Independ'ents . . .......... 6 The plebiscite vot© on the new Constitution was 56 per cent. favourable. Eearly all the Ministers were reelected. Those defeated include Margaret Pearse, sister of Patrick Pearse, who was executed for leadership in the 1916 rebellion. The defeat of Mr. Mnlcahy, one of exPresident Cosgrave 's most valued lieutenants, was the sensation of the elections. He was beaten by Jim LaTkin, the veteran independent Labour candidate. President De Valera headed the Clare poll with 6000 over the quota, while ex-President Cosgrave, who wa.j elected for Cork, secured only 9508 in an electorate of 53,019. The Pinattce Minister, Mr. McEntee, '""•as elected by a substantial majority.
