Mrs. Stringer said that she was only too pleased to be present to explain the aims of the junior division, and also of the work of the adult members. The society was now a peace-time organisation, and it was endeavouring to establish units that would be ready for any emergency that mq,y arise. Mrs. Stringer detailed her method of organising the junior. branch, and said that the " Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, had placed facilities at her disposal so that it was possible to make every school a unit. She was able to address the staffs and the children. The three main points for the juniors were: (1) To keep the rules of health; (2) give service; and (3) to link up with other countries by the interchange of scrap-books, of an educational nature, and this helped to further friendly international relationships. In connection with the adult division, it was necessary for the various units to be properly organised, so that in times of emergency they were ready, and some responsibility was a good thing to keep them going. The speaker suggested the cripple children as ' a suitable field. On the motion of Mrs. Harker, Mrs. Stringer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her address. Mr. Harker said that the Cripple Children 's Society ha-d Suggested that the Red' Cross Society take the responsibility of that work in Wairoa. Several individuals had interested themselves in various cases, and some good work had been done. He hoped that the Wairoa Centre would soon have a junior division. In connection with the training of Y.A.D. nnrses, Mrs. M. Hislop is to give the nursing instruction, based on the St. John text book. Mr. Harker, as chairman of the Fire Board, gave permission to use a room at the fire station, subject to the ap proval of the superintendent, Mr.- D. Byford. When the question of equipment necessary for instruction was raised, Mr. E. Dryden gave an assurance that he would raise up to £10 to procure that. Mrs. M. B. Svensen said that she would approach the basketball girls on the question of going in for the course, and Mrs. Nolan agreed to bring it before the Women 's Institute. The fee for the course is 5/-, and any girls interested are advised to get in touch with Mrs. M. Hislop.
