PRESENTATION AT ARGYLL
Mr. G. Johnstone Farewelled (From Our Own* Correspondent) ARGYLL EAST, Last Night. Mr G. "Johnstone, who has resigited his position as chairman of the Argyll Fast School Committee owing to leaving the district, was farewelled by the School Committee on Friday evening last. • i As a member of the School Committee, Mr S. K. Gilbertson, whose remarks were keartily endorsed by the others present, said he was able to say without hesitation that Mr Johnstone had fulfilled hjs duties as chairman in a splendid manner. Much special work had fallen upon his shoulders and the school was losing a good friend. The committee accepted his resiguation with regret. • ^ Mr Gilbertson was asked t0 speak on behalf of the settlers also and expressed the regret felt that the notice had been so slicrt regarding Mr Johnstone's departure. Mr Johnstone had dono a great deal for the district and had been a prime mover in social functions. The regret at Mr and Mrs Johnstone's departure was widespread. All wished them every success and happiness in their new sphere, and wished them to accept an envelope containing a cheque as a token of the esteem in which they were held, In reply, Mr Johnstone expressed the heartfelt thanks of • himself and .Mrs Johnstone. It had been, he said, a pleasure to do anything. for the school and district, and to have had such good co-operation from his committees and from the teachers. p
