SAFE BLOWN OPEN
£2 Stolen From Hastings Bakery Office AN ^EXPERr JOB Safe-breakers were active in Hastings over the week-end; The saf e of the Hastings Bakery, Ltd., was blown open and a few pounds an loose chauge • was tak-en. This is the second time within a year or so that this particular saie has oeen rifled by burglars. The first indication tnat a'ny thing was amiss in the premises, which are srituated on the- corner of Alexandra and Hastings sfreets, was shortly before 10 o'clock yesterday morning, when an employee called at the office to carry out some small duty. Qn entering the office he found the place littered with sapks and the safe-Joor. almost wrenched from its hinges? presenting a much-battered appearance, It is obvious -that the infruders took every precaution against being dipturbed, for they used a Idrge number of sacks to muffle the sQiind of the explosion. Judging from th® manner in which thq task was carrie4 put, it would appear that expert safe-breakers were on the job. For all their efforts, however, the reward was practically negligible, the only money in the safe being a few pounds in small change, As far as could be aseertained by the staff thi# morndng, nothing else was disturbed or removed. Both the propriptor, Mr^G- Findlay, and the manager, Mr A. D. Scott,"were absent in Gisborne over the wcek-end and have not yet returned to Hastings. Deteetive-Sergeant Leo Revell ig in ; charge of the police investigations.
