U.S. STEEL STRIKE
18,556 Men Return To Work (Received 28, 1.0 p.m.) COLUMBUS (Ohio), June 27. Governor Davey declared that the Secretary of Labour, Miss Perkins, asked him to get Messrs. Girdler and Purnell, exeeutives of the Republic Steel Company, to come here and "keep them here until they sign an agreement with the strilcers." Mr. Davey replied that he had no power to take such proceedings and assertcd that it would be kidnapping. Miss Perkins, speaking at Washington, said: "I did not make such an unwarranted high-handed proposai but merely suggested that he use subpoenae to get officials of the Union and the companies together round the conference table." It is reported that Youngstown is under- the protection of militia. A total of 18,556 men have resumed work at the Youngstown Sheet Tube Company and the Republic Steel Corporation plants
