Mr Andrew Mellon Involved SIXTEEN OTHER CASES

(Eeceived 25, 11.0 a.m.) W ASHIN GTON, June 24. Further tax evasions are reported. Mr. Andrew Mellon, former Secretary of the Treasury, and sixteen other wealthy businessmen are alleged to have utilised a holding company device and avoided the payment in 1934 of 1,638,000 dollars. The action is the third major blow dealt by the Eoosevelt Administration to the Mellon interests in Pittsburgh. An earlier action, which is stil nnsettled, concerned a suit filed against Mr. Mellon, seeking a levy of an extra assessment of more than £600,000 respecting his 1917 income tax and alleging illegalities in the preparation of that return.
