Wanganui Outbreak

WANGANUI, This Day. Fire this morning caused considerable damage to the Municipal Opera House, a wooden building erected in 1899. The outbreak started in a sweets stafll at tlie rear of tlxe dress circle and spread rapidly along the sarking under the iron roof. When the brigade arrived the roof was burning from end .to end. Large quantities of water were pourcd into the building, the seating of the circle being littered with plaster and cinders and thoroughly saturated. Apart from the roof and portions Of the upper weather-boarding, the structural damage to the otlier parts was not great. The stage scenery and curtain were intact. Tlie building is insured for £2,250 and accessories for £1,055. The building was used last night for the Blomfifeld-Rumberg wrestling bout. ' ■
