Amalgamation Issue SideStepped

WHANGAREI, June 23. On his first official visit to the north land since attaining Cabinet rank, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, referring to local body amalgamation, said the issue had been eidestepped in the past, because it was big and important, but he held that it Bhould be faced. He urged a national rather than a parochial outlook towards local body administration. Thete was a danger . that . while the people were living in 1937 they let their minds dwell in 1880, when smaller units were necessary to foster development. To-day, with better transport and communication, the noed of the parochial unit was passing, and a wider conception was necessary.
