Otane Gathering
The monthly meeting of the Otane Women's Institute was held on Friday afternoon, Mrs. R. H. Tod presiding. After the singing of the opening o.de, all members remained standing as a mark of . respect to the late Mrs. Bruce, who had been a very active member of the Women's Institute. Mrs. Tod spoke of the bra'',e and patient spirit Mrs. Bruce hn'i maintained throughout her long ilu3-3ss, and of her wonderful example to all. Although unable to attend the meetings for a long time previously, members were delighted to welcome Mrs. Bruce to the birthday party last month, and her sudden relapse and passing was a great shock to all. It was deeided to send a letter to Mr. Bruce, expressing sympathy with him and his two young dughters in their irreparable loss. The annual "shop" held showed a substantial credit. The motto for the month is "Gloomy shadows oft will flit, if you have the wit and grit, just to smile a little bit." Miss Palmer gave a most interesting and instruetive demonstration on brush-making and coconut bowls, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The various competitions were keenly conteste|, the results of which were: Baby's knitted singlet, Mrs. Roach 1, Mrs. Oliver 2, Mrs. Quin 3. Flowers, Mrs. A. Bull 1, Mrs. Spargo, jnr., 2, Mrs. F.
