WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Waipukurau Meeting The monthly meeting of the Waipukurau Women' s Institute was held in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs Pendray presiding over a good attendance. The motto for the day was "Hath not old custom. made this life more 6weet?" After the singmg of the institute ode, routine business was dealt with, after which a very humorous sketch, entitled "Getting into Society" was given by Mesdames G. Wiggins and E. Perkins, which caused much merriment. Mrs Pendray introduced Mr A. F. Cook, who gave an instructive address on gardening, the use of soils and subsoils and general arrangement of house gardens; plants and their needs, flowers suitable for a cottage garden and many other items of interest to gardeners. At the conclusion, Mr Cook was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competition for the month resulted: — Face cloth from old mat'erial, Mrs F. Fraser 1 and 3, Mrs Wadman 2. Best article 1/- worth material, Mrs A. Young 1, Mrs Perkins 2, Mrs Fraser 3. Coronation apron, Mrs D. Davey 1, Mrs Rush 2, Mrs Fraser 3. Best result from one egg, Mrs Fraser 1, Mrs Bromell 2, Mrs Scherf 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames N. Harris, R. Pellew, H. M. Kerr, H. E. Hepburn, N. Hubbard, Miss M. King: A very pleasant afternoon concluded with country dancing acd the singingi of the National Anthem.
