Annual Meeting of Waipawa Presbyterian Young Men

WAIPAWA, Last Night. Tfie second annual meeting) of tfie Waipawa Presbyterian Young Men's Gymnastic Club was field in tfie clubroom, tfiere bexng a good attendance of members. Tfie cfiairman, Mr D. S. Cfiambers, opened the meeting, and vacated the efiair for tfie president, Reiy. F. W. Robertson. Tfie report of tfie secretary for tfie period was presented. This disclosed a very satisfactory state of tfie club's atfairs. Tfie mem.bersfiip at June 1 was. 21 representing a gain of five members during tfie year. In all otfier ■ respects the progress was excellent. Substantial increases of equipment fiad been made and members were now in no way fiindered by lack of apparatus, wfiile in addition a further room fiad been obtained enabling tfie use of these additional materials. The treasurer's statement disclosed a fieaiffiy state of finances, subscriptions fiaving come in promptly in every case and a credit balance being shown on tfie year's working, over and above fieavy expenses. During the summer the committee fiad, witfi tfie idea of keeping members together, founded a swimming club, wfiicfi made several well-attend-ed excursions to various parts of tfie district, wfiile at tfie beginning of May members had worked fiard on a club float for the local Coronation procession. This exhibit proved a good and mucfi appreciated entry. . Conduct of club members had been good on every occasion, and if efforts were made to attend meetings as regularly as possible, tfie present year's activities would be even more successful tfian tfiose of tfie past year. Tfie cfiairman, Mr Cfialmers, tfien addressed a few remarks to tfie members. He explained the difiiculty some members found attending every club night, and' urging tfiem to make an eifort to do so, stressed tfie pfiysical beneiits arising from the activity. He, as inst'ructor, commented on tfie marked improvement of the standard of ' gymnastics, and tfianked members for their loyal support. He also extended. tfianks to the president for his keen interest in tfie operations of the club, and to tfie . m em bers of tfie committee for their assistance. ' Tfie election of officers resulted as Eollows Cfiairman, Mr' D. Chalmers ; secretary, Mr R. A. Holt ; treasurer, Mr J: W. Yates; committee, Messrs W. 3. Miller,' I. O. Stewart and J. Vazey; leaders, Messrs Cfialmers and lt. Hutcfiings ; sub-leaders, * Messrs Miller and N. MacPfierson. Tfie constitution of the club was tben read to members, and a general discussion on matters of interest tb the club followed The meeting closed witfi a vote of thanks to tfie cfiair.
