Cycles Approaching from Right at Intersections HASTINGS TRAFFIC 0FFENCES "It may not be generaJly kiiown, but a motorist must give way to cyclists approaching from his right," pointed out Mr D. Manu, Hastings borough traffic inspector, wheii R. F. Russell was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs by Mr. J. Miller, S.M., in the Hastings Magistrate's Court this morning for faihng to give way to a bicycle approaching from the right at an interseetion. Defendant pleaded guilty. The inspector agreed that defendant waS probably dazzled by the sun at the time. For operating a heavy motor-vehicle at a speed greater than 25 miles an hour, the maximum speed for which this class of vehicle was licensed, Edgar Lay, who pleaded guilty, was finsd £1 10/- and costs 10/-. Mr J. H. R. Semple, Main Highway Board Inspector, said that defendant^ drove at 35 miles an hour for a considerable distance and refused to stop when het sounded the siren behind him. A. A. Long, whom Mr Semple declared seemed to have been under the influence of liquor, was fined £1 10/- and costs 10/- for riding a bicycle without a light. ^ Long rode along the main Napier- Wellington highway with some cvmpanions, singing loudly and swerving cOntinually across the road. He was warned but repeated the offence. For operating a heavy-traffic vehicla carrying a load greater than" it was licensed to carry, Ellen and Louis Holder were fined 10/- with costs of che same amount. For similar ofiences, Isabel Orbell was fined 15/- and costs .10/-, and Peter Bridgman was fined £5 with costs 10/-, Bridgman 's being described as a ,bad case. Bridgman was also fined £1 10/- and 10/- costs for opeiating on a road a heavy traffic vehicle exceeding in weight the mn.vimiim load allowed on that road, and a similar offence cost Isabel Orbell 15/-, with costs 10/-.
