TWYFORD GATHERING
Mrs Burge presided over a well-at-tendcd meeting of the Twyford Institute. Two visitors were welcomed. Mrs Bixley, as hostcsS for the after-
noon, gave the motto, "A Clieery Smile and a how do you do may change the day from grey to blue." it was decided to hold an Institute daiice in July at Fernhill; also to hold a social afternoon each month at various members' fiomes, with play-reading, sewing, etc. Mrs Thompson was chosen as leader, and the first meeting takes place at her home on June 17. ( Mrs Burge presented Mrs Kitching, a recent bride, with a very useful gift from Institute members. The recipient brought along some of her wedding cake for the afternoon tea. Mrs Thompson then handed an Institute spoon to Mrs Burge as a memento of her service as secretary for two years. Mrs Chapman Taylor gave a mcpt interesting talk on social purity, which was listened to most attentively and very much appreciated. She was aecorded a very hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Chapman Taylor, with Miss Bell, very kindly judged the competitions, and their awards were as follow: — Puff pastry, Mrs Masters 1, Miss McMichael 2, Mrs Manson 3. Best bloom> Mrs Carrington 1, Mrs Thompson 2. Mrs Manson 3. Afternoon tea was a very welcome interlude, after which an entertaining competition was arranged by Mrs Bixley and won by Mrs Toothill. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a very happy meeting.
