WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Fernhill Meeting Tho mcmbers of thc Fernhill Women 's Institute held their monthly meeting in the hall. Mrs. Davies presided, and welomed all present, extending a special welcome to Sister Stringer, Dominion organiser of the Junior Red Cross movement; also to Mrs. T. H. Lowry, to whom- Mrs. Davies offered congratulations on the recont honours bestowed on her. Sister Stringer, iu a cliarming manner, spoke on the aims and ideals of tho Junior Red Cross Society, and passed round a beautiful scrap book for members to inspeet. This had been made by pupils of one of the schools visite^L by her in Wellington. Mrs. T. H. Lowry gave a most interesting travel.talk on Cuba, Mexican towns and on to New York, describing visits to various Red Cross buildings and other matters of interest in the Red Cross Work. Both ladies were aecorded a hearty vote of thanks for their instructive addresses. The delegate's report of the annual council meeting of the N.H.B. Federation, held xecently in Napier, was given by Mrs. Finch. This was a splendid report, every little detail having been taken noto of. Thanks were oxpressed lo tho dolegato by Mrs. Osborne. Mrs. Craven, linlt's corrospondent, read a delightful letter from the link at Mill Creek, Galt, Ontario. The competition, "something new from something old," brought forth very good entries. First prize was awarded Mrs. 'Finch (child's hat), with Mrs. Taylor (girl's tunic) second. In "the best bloom in your garden" competition the awards were: — Mrs. g. Gunn (cerise geraniuih) I, Miss Bicknoll (double red geranium) 2. Mesdames G. and A. Gunn and Miss Bickney,\ were hostesses for the afternoon, and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
