350,000 APPLICANTS
List of Names for Mortgage Relief NO COPY FOR HASTINGS The opinion that it would be a mpracticable to have a list of names of: applicants for relief under the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act made available for perusal at Hastings wa» expressed by the. Under-Seeretary of Justice in response to the repreeenta-t-ions made in this direction by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, The need for a list of applicants being made available in such centres as Hastings and Napier, outside the four main cities, was mentioned at the last meeting off the Chamber, and it was decided to ascerta/in whether a list could be made available for this district. It ie clear, however, from the reply reeeived that there is no possibility of this being done. "I regret to state that it would not be practieable to make arrangements as suggested," wrote the Under-Secre-tary. "The list is a typewritten one and comprises some 350,000 names and runs into four volumes of 350 pages each. It is not convehient to have extra lists typed out owing to the magnitude of the task involved."
