Minister Promises io Review Matter REPLY T0 C0MPLA1NT Consideration is to be given by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, to the representations inade by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce regarding the present means of warnmg drivers of vehicles of the approach of a train at the Heretaunga street and other railway crossings in Hastings. As the outcome of the discussion at the last meeting of the Chamber, the Minister was writtun to and his attention was drawn to the ineffective means uow adopted by tho crossing-keepers. It was pointed out that at present a red lamp was used which emitted a very faint Iight, and with the numerOus coloured electric signs in the streefc it was considered very difficult for motorists to see the crossing-keeper's Iight j? "It is respectfully requested that steps be taken to provide a more effective warning signal a't this and other railway crossings, either by some mechanical device or by supplyingj the crossing-keeper with a more powerful and distinctive Iight," Btated tbe Chamber' s letter. The secretary, Mr. V. A. Thomson, nas now been advised that the Minister will be pleased to have a full investigaoion made into the matter. "You may ■be assured that the views that have been ©xpressed will receive every consideration," wrote Mr. Sullivan.
