. McLEAN — SMITH Holy Trinity Chiurcli, Woodville, was filled to over-llowing on Saturday afternoon with friends and relations who had travelled long distances to witness the marriage of Bessie, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs R. G. Smith, of "Trethella," Woodville^ and George Ronaldson, elder son of the late Mr and Mrs W. R. McLean, of Hawera. Rev. G. W. Davidson, formerly vicar of Holy Trinity CTurch, was the officiating clergyman and Miss D. Barkwith piayed the wedding musie. The clnirch had been charmingly decorated by girl friends of the bride with white clirysanthemums intermingled with vivid red. berries. Fntering the church, escorted by her father, the bride made a lovely picture in her gown of magnolia satin classically cut and fashioned M redingote style, opening down the front to show gold satin. The skirt fell into a long, full train. braided with gold and was edged with a fold of gold satin. Her filmy veil of cream tulle was held to her head with a half-circlet of large pearls and side posies of orange blossom. She earried a trailing bouq iet of deep cream freesiaB and maidenhair fern. Three picturesque maids followed in single file, Miss Pamela Betts, of Masterton (chief), Miss Margaret Mules and Miss Alison Davis, of Woodville, wearing . redingote f rocks of geranium red stilfened net opening over taffeta slips in the same shade. Net ruffles marked the high necklines and finished the skirts, which were slightly trained, Bobble buttons covered with taffeta ornamented the front of the corsages and the long sleeves, which were full at the top and tight-fitting to the wrists. Gold saildals wer^ worn- and thefr trailing bouquets were of red bouvardias and gold freesias, their headbands being of the same natural fiowers. Mr John Bayley, of Hawera, was best man, and the ushers at the church were Messrs H. Slater (Hawera), and R. and V. Smith), brothers of the bride. As the bride and bridegroom left the church, Guide Sallie Desmond presented the bride with a floral liorse-shoe tied with gold ribbons, conveying good Avislics i'rom the Guiders and Guides to a former Guide, and as a compliment to lier mother, who is president of the Girl Guides' Association. At "Trethella" some hunderds of guests were later hospitably entertained by Mr and Mrs Smith, the latter weariiig a graceful frock of bottle green lace with touches of shell pink, also green peach-bloom hat, her bouquet being of pink carnations and c^cTamen. The bride and bridegroom stood in tlie drawiug-room to receive the felicitations of their friends, after which there was an adjournment to a large marquee on the lawn. The marquee was brightly decorated with hydrangeas and clirysanthemums intermingled with bamboo, the bride's table being ccutred with red gerberas and golden nareissi, and the contrast of bluebells. Many toasts were honoured among then being oue to Miss Aisla Beetham, who was to have been one of the bridesmaids. hut was nnfortuuately indisposed. Afternoon tea was served in the diiiing-room and guests later viewed the handsome array of presents, which testified to the high esteem in which the young couple are held. When the bride and bridegroom left later by car, Mrs McLean appeared for travelling in a tailored suit of smart black and white check, with a red hat, her blouse, gloves, handbag and shoes en suite.
