ONGAONGA BEATEN BY , _ PORANGAHAU

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. With occasional bright rearguard play, Porangahau gained a deeisive victory over Ongaonga at Central Park yesterday afternoon, winning by 29 points to three. Although neither teara lxad the fxnish of some of the other teams in Central Hawke's Bay's senicr competition, both the backs and forwards worked untiringly all afternoon, but being one-sided, the game was not partieularly exciting. Tlie teams were: Porangahau: )C. Kuru, G. Kuru, Petuha, Ross. Cochrane, A. Kuru, Bassett, Paki, Tibble, Sciascia, H. Ccok, McDonald, Niania, E. Cook, Hokianga. Ongaonga: Roke, Hansen, Hinds, W. Ross, Cossar, Carroll, Freemantle, R. Ross, McDonald, Slxaw, Richardson, Hutt, Smitli, Buick, Rasmussen. Porangahau 's backs were deflnltely superior and at times the handling and tackling was partieularly bright. Ongaonga 's defence was good in patches, wliile theiv forwards presented a bold face to a stronger opposition. The losing. team wero the first to score, W Ross kicking a penalty goal followiiig a vanguard attack. But the scores were soon equalised when Porangahau begaxi an attack which resulted in Petuha crossing the goal line. From then on Porangahau held the upper hand, although at times Ongaonga enjoyed a few runs down-lield which gave the winners the chance ot testing thejr own defence. The scorers were: — Porangahau: Petuha (two ti'ies), Ross (two tries), Polxi (conversion), Sciascia (try), G. Kuru (three conversions), E. Kuru try), Pahi try). Ongaonga: W, Ross (penalty goal). Mr Frederickson refereed. JUNIOR GRADE Takapau A 14, Porangahau 6. THIRD GRADE Waipukurau 8, Takapau 3. Old Boys (8) drew with To Aute B (S).
