LOADS ON COUNTY ROADS

Limit Imposed By Classification

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. At the monthly meeting of the Waipukurau County Couhcil held on Saturday, Mr A. C. Russell' presided over the following members: Crs. H. T. Wright, P. F. WaH, L. M. Monckton, J. A.' Swinburn, A. W. Elliott and M. Tansey. The engineer-clerk, Mr R. B. Price, was 'also present. The Commissdoner of Traiisport wrote suggesting that the roads in the county be placed in class 3 with the exception of the Tourere-Whetukura road, which should be in class 4. "Although some of the riding roads may be a little weak, I do not think that any groat damage to the road surfaces would be ineurred as the r-esult of their use by class 3 traffic, ' ' wrote the Commissioner. "The effect of a classification in class 4 would, liowever, restriet payloads to such an extent that transport costs to the ratepayers would be lilcely to be increased, thus offscttiug any possible roduetion in maiutenanee costs." The engineer, Mr R. B. Price, informed Ihe council that loads to be carried on tbe county roads would bo liui'iled to tons, with tb'e exception of tlie Tourere-Whetukura road, where tho limit xvould be 4§ tons. Permission could, liowever, be obtaincd to earry hcavior loads if necessaTy. The recominendation was adopted.
