Waipukurau County Resolution

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. "That amalgamation of local bodies should not be carried out without a referendum of the ratepayers of the individual bodies concerned," was the resolution passed by the Waipukurau County Council at Saturday's meeting in response to a letter received from the Makara County Council. The Makara council- wrote asking for support for the following resolution: — "That the proposed- legislation making provision for the amalgamation of local bodies be amended so as to provido for a poll of the ratepayers before the legislation as proeeeded with, and that members of Parliament representing the local bodies concerned be urged to support the amendment." Cr. Tansey pointed out that the resolution should be made more explic-it by including the words "provide for. apoll of ratepayers of the individual local bodies concerned." This was agreed to.
