Century Hurdles Won By Clarion Call WIN FOR TAITORU

WANGANtH, Last Night. The Wanganui Jockey Club's steeplechase meeting opened ou Saturday and the attendance was surprisingly good considermg the weather, which was just ai)out as bad as it was possible to be. The afternoon was hue in patches, but it was bitterly cold with driving showers of rain and kail at intervals. The course was in fair order but the going was siow. The racing was good, close finishes being the feature of the day. The Century Hurdles was won by Clarion Call, the Grandstand Steeplechase by Royal Banquet, while the principal flat events were won by Taitoru and Gold Mission. The totalisator handled £12,822, as against £12,403 on fhe corresponding day last year. ' After- the running of the Grandstand Steeplechase, won by Royal Banquet, the judicial committee met to consider-eyidence,-it is presumed, concerning inIterferonco by Riotous, ridden by W. J. 'Bowden, with Royal Banquet at the home turn, and it was decided that Bowden should be stood down for a month because of a breach of one of the Rules of Racing.
