CRUTCHING COMPLETED
Central H.B. Farmers' Busy Weeks (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Crutcliing on farms of Central Hawke's Bay is now practically comple'ted, farmers in various. parts of the district having experienced some busy weeks. Because of the shortage of feed brought about by the dry spell, many farmers have been able to put off their crutching until later than usual, and the hope is that with a shorter spell between crutching and shearing, the wool will not get so dirty as usual. In the Argyll East district, Mr J". Anld has just finished crutching 900 sheep. In his district, as in other parts, the cry has been for rain, and pleuty of it. Feed has become abundaat only during the past forlnight or so; and many farmers fear that, granting plenty" of rain in the near future, the hard f rosts might hinder the growth of good pastures. Some months ago Mr Auld put in £2 10/- worth of turnip-seed. The cold, frosty weather se$ in, with the result that several acres sown in turnips have not come to fruition, the seed having failecL to germinate.
