GEORGE V MEMORIAL
Minister Congratulates H-B. on its Response A WORTHY CAUSE Congratulations to tho people of Hawke's Bay for the resporise they have made to the appeal for the Krng George V. Memorial Fund were expressed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, during a sbort visit to Hastings this morning. Mr Parry said that evidently extensive plans had been made by the Mayors of Napier and Hastings for the undertaking. "I have been several days in Hawke's Bay on local-govern-ment matters," the Minister remarked1, "and in many places I visited there was hopeful mention of jthe fund. That is a good indication of the success bo be realised. I think I can, in advance, extend on behalf of the Government and the kiddies who need health-giv-ing sunshine hearty congratulations to the people of Hawke's Bay for their splendidi help. "I do not think any prevlous simila* call for funds in New Zealand has carried with it a greater appeal to the feelings o£ the people than has the call made for thas fund," he added. ' 'Ther* is a wealth of meaning, and sco^e for the generosity of us all, in the words 'sunshine and happiness for the little ones.' That is the purpose of the fund, and in this it signifies the great love and affection that our late Sovereign showed toward the children." The way in which money for the fund was coming in from many parts of the Dominion was wonderful. "It koks to me now that each district is in healthy competiticn with Ihe other in reaching high totals for the fund," Mr Parry said. "That spirit in the cause of the fund is admirable in all that it will achieve. It will he a great day for the children, and an equally great day for the benefactors, when the money col'•ected is disfributed and used."
