IN APPRECIATION

.T. A,

MILLER.

Thanks Extended to Mayor and Counciilors RECENT JUBILEE DINNER Mr. J. A. Miller, a fornier Mayor ot Hastings, who was one of those who attended the dinner given by the Mayor and counciilors of Hastings on the occasion of the celebration of the borough jubilee, thinks that the time is opportune to make some acknowledgment of the courtesy and lfindness extended to tho ex-Mayors and counciilors, -and has handed to the HeraldTribune the following statement:— TO HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS OF HASTINGS: At tho dinner to ex-Mayors and excouncillors on TJiursday, May 13, there was not mcluded on the toast list "Present Mayor and Counciilors." This, of course, was probably in good taste, they being our |iosts, but still, one of us should have thought of this and forced the issue. - Though each speaker expressed his thanks, a formal appreciation on behalf of all of the gueBts would have been met with great acclamation. The courtesy extended to us, the kindness with which you received and entertained us, not only made a deep nnpression on our minds, but was most gratifying to our feelings. Each of us gave our sorvices bolieving our efforts would promote the welfare of our town, our citizens and our district, and we are proud of the manuer in which you have carried on and fulfilled this work with exceedingly great credit to yourselves. Believe me, in life a "has been" has to be wary in his life and actions, and his desserts are more kicks than halfpence which, of course, induces humility. Your appreciation of our services, and the honour you have done ns, has put a warm glow in our hearts to carry on through the rest of our lives. Your a gratefully,

(Signed)
