MARAETOTARA - WAIMARAMA
The May meeting of the Maraetotara- Waimarama Institute was held at Miss Chamber's home, Mokopeka, Mrs. Elliott presiding. The Institute song was sung and business attended to, after wh.ich Mrs. Thom gave her report on the half-yearly meeting of the Northern Hawke's Bay Pederati.on to which she was a delegate. The members were delighted to hear that one of their members, Mrs. D. Riggir, has been put on the Foundatlon Roll of Honour, an honour which they f elt was Well deserved as Mrs. Riggir has beeu, and still is, a hard-working president of the Northern Hawke's Bay Federation. The roll call, "My most useful artiele in the kitchen, ' ' brought fortJi varied answers. Eour members, Mrs. G. R. Field, Mrs. P. Field, Mrs. Stewart and Miss Long then demonstrated how to qullt with the aid of a box from the Home Science Department, Massey College. Various kinds of quilting, English, Erench and Italian were shown and the differeut stitches used, the members afterwards worbing on sinall samples. This was a most interesting and easy demonstration of a very old craft, and was very much enjoyed by everyone. Mrs. Elliott proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the demonstrators. The first competition, a nut loaf, was won by Miss Smillie, Mrs. Riggir being second. The second competition, guessing ch'ildhood photographs of members, causcd great laughter, only one member, Mrs. Thom, guessing all correctly and Mrs. Elliott coming a close second. Mrs. Riggir and Miss Chambers provided a delightful afternoon tea, aiid the afternoon elosed with a very hearty singing of the National Anthem.
